Blog # 8

When I red the Omnivore's Dilemma, I had a lot of flashbacks of my childhood days. When Pollan visit the Polyface Farm and went hunting with Angelo. When Pollan describe the way how they slaughter the chickens on Polyface Farm and how the have to get up early in the morning and the way the neighbors would watch then. They did the same thing on me Grandparents Farm.
When Pollan and Anglo went hunting, reminded me of when my Grandfather and Uncles would go hunting. They would go to the hills to hunt for pigs. The hills are where they did their hunting. Pollan stated, " I remember from the hunter ed that you weren't allowed to shoot from a public roadway."(350) So that's why most hunters would go to the hills to hunt for their food.

The Omnivore's Dilemma

What is the Omnivore's Dilemma?

The Omnivore's Dilemma is something that we all face in our everyday life. Its when we we make a decision of whether or not we the food that we are eating. iIts all about chooseing the right food. When i was reading the "Omnivore's Dilemma" by Michael Pollan , he stated that when he took the mushroom home, he later then took out his field guides to see if it was a wild mushroom or not. But when he look it up he notice that evereything matched up except for the texture. he including that,"how could i tell the if the gills i was looking at were thin or thick one." (286)You cant just judge something just by looking at it. Right there Pollan didn't know who to trust. his good old friend Angelo who since to know a lot about the wild life or the field guide that he got.
Pollan later stated,"I didn't realize it at the time, but i had impaled myself that afternoon on the horns of the omnivore's dilemma." (286)

Last week when i red one of my peers work, learn that yoplait light has 40 more calories than Dannon yogurt. This weekend when i went to the supermarket i dint know with one to pick. When you saw the word light i thought that it have less calories but look at the back in fine print, you can see that it has 100 calories and on the front in big and bold letters you see the word light. As they say " you cant judge a book by it color". so i ended up with the Dannon
that has 60 calories.

Big Organic

When I think of the word organic, I think of something that's grown or raised naturally. What I mean by that is that there is no chemicals added, like NPK fertilizer. Because there are no chemicals in the food and the product was grown by mother nature's, we say it health for use. According to Pollan when we see ""Organic" on the label conjures up a rich narrative, even if it is the consumer who fills in most of the details..."(137) when we see organic on a label,we buy it because it's health for our body. I don't like to eat organic product, it taste different from the product that they put the chemicals in. Pollan state that "Did food additives and synthetic chemicals have a place in processed organic food? If the answers to these questions seem like no-brainers, then you too are stuck in an outdated pastoral view of organic."(155) But there is something about the taste of the foods that's have chemicals, it taste better to me. Organic is rhetorical because organic food is health for us

Blog # 5

In order to achieve what you want in life you have to work hard for it. In his book " The Omnivore's Dilemma", Pollan maintains that " man have become the tools of their tools." (55-56) In order to achieve one thing you have to take it step by step and day by day. If you want a new home, you have to work towards it . I will like to be a nurse one day but I just can't wake up one day and said that am a nurse. I have to go to school and get a education first. Pollan also maintains that "In a shed across the way I noticed the shiny chrome prow of a tractor trailer poking out and asked Billy about it, He explained he'd had to take on long-distance hauling work to keep the farm afloat. " Have to drive the big rig to pay for all my farm toys," he chuckled." (55).In the book Naylor told Pollan that "" He's (Billy) got all the latest toys: the twelve-row planter, Roundup Ready seed, the John Deere combine."" (55), You can't judge a book by its cover. Will I was reading the farm, I ave relate a lot of it to my life in Jamaica. Will in living in Jamaica, we have our own farm and we have acres of land and our neighbors will think that we are rich but they don't know how hard we have to work for what we have. And my family is just like Billy in the book.
Some of the pressures men face about the body image are that their belly getting too big or their are embrace to walk with their wife. But often we think that men don't face pressures concerning their diet and body image. WE think only face it.

Everyone learn in a different, some are quick to learn new language than others. some learn by visual or audio. " understanding doesn't mean that you suddenly speak the language. Far from it. It's a small step, nothing more, yet it's rewards are intoxicating and deceptive."(Sedaris, 295). For example:m when I was in high school and i joined the softball team, i did know how to throw in a far distance. Yea you might find if funny but then I was the catcher of the team and yes i now i can throw from a far distance. everything takes time, you just have to put your mind to it.And don't give up. When I was reading the article by Asimov, he said that he have taking a aptitude test and scored 160 and the normal scored is 100. But when it come to is car he don't know nothing but the auto-repair man know how to do it and the auto-repair man would scored like a 80 on the aptitude test. "yet, when anything went wrong with my car I hastened to him anxiously as he explored its vitals, and listened to his pronouncement as though they were divine oracles and he always fixed my car." (Asimov,1). Asimov and Sedaris are similar because the shows that everyone understand and learn different.

Gender

Their is nothing like a feminine touch. According to Goffman "women, more than man,are pictured using their fingers and hands to trace the outlines of an object or to cradle it or to caress its surface ( the latter sometime under the guise of guiding it), or to a " just barely touching" of the kind that might be significant bodies. This ritualistic touching is to be distinguished from the utilitarian kind that grasps, manipulates, or holds:" Even in the 80's and today, the touch of a women is like the symbol of beauty. Most ads use female to advertise the male product.

From The Vocabulary Of Comics

Reading the article about "From The Vocabulary Of Comics" by Scott McCloud. I have come a cross a lot of thing that I have done and thought about in my everyday life. When we think of a human face, we think of a circle with two dots and line for the mouth. In the article McCloud Incredible!"(5) In other words, McCloud believes that why when we think of a face we didn't think of a square maintains that " The fact that your mind is capable of taking a circle, two dots and a and line and turning then into a face is nothing short ofwith two triangles and a rectangle. Why a circle?.
On page 6 McCloud said that " ask a friend to draw you some shapes on a piece of paper. They should be closed Curves, but Otherwise can be as Weird and Irregular as he or she Wants."
While i was reading this and I look on the next beside it and i saw the shapes a smell came to my face. when am bored I would do the same shapes. So I went back into my old high school books and I put in the dots as McCloud and I notice the same result.
Fallacy
Ever chair have four legs. I think this is a fallacy because when we think of a chair the first image that come to mind is a four legged chair. But not all chairs are four legged.some chairs have three or two legs. But we mostly see the once that have four legs. According to fallacyfiles.org "Before Kepler, astronomers believed that planets moved in circular orbits. However, observations of planetary positions did not fit with this theory. The theory was saved from refutation by adopting the ad hoc hypothesis of epicycles. Of course, the theory should have been rejected because planets do not move in circular orbits." This is why I think my statement is a fallacy.
IF ever there was an idea custom-made for a Jay Leno monologue, this was it: Someone stole Madea's chin. Isn't that like its real? Whatever happened to all the make-up artists that she have, can't they make a new one? I happen to sympathize with her because I lost my too and I found one, though, perhaps because its hers.
